Threads of Connection

I was drawn to fiber arts for two main reasons: it’s portable and affordable. It’s also a creative alternative to immersing oneself in electronic media. It’s a functional art form that invites commentary and connections in public; many people approach me when they see me embroidering. I love the fact that colored threads bloom on fabric without the mess of charcoal, paint, or markers. Parents love the fact that I teach a life skill that’s been lost to many. And in these increasingly stressful times, needlework is a scientifically proven stress reducer.

Fiber Art Instructional Videos

I often create videos for my classes, so everyone can have an up-close view of the demonstration. Videos are also great for differentiation: students who are struggling or absent can replay the videos on their own devices, and students who are quick to master one skill can advance to the next. Plus, it’s like having a second teacher in the room: I can play the video of myself teaching a stitch, and simultaneously be available to help  students one-on-one.
